I’m thrilled to report that the solar food dryer my dad built me last year for my birthday is on my roof and drying away. I’ve got a tray of organic strawberries shrivelling down into delicious dried pellets as I write. They’ve only been out there for two hours but the edges have already started to pucker. I figure they’ll be ready some time tomorrow. But what to do with them when they’re finished? I figure I’ll save them and add them to some granola bars come January.
The most glorious part of drying the strawberries is the perfume. When I stand beside the box, a sweet, sweet smell fills my nostrils… So far, it has taken a lot less effort than the jam I made last week.
