The lettuce is up!

I’m currently admiring the trays of lettuce seedlings in the window of my office. If all goes as planned, soon they will be joined by tomato, pepper and eggplant seedlings too. I know I’m behind schedule in getting my veggies started, but I wouldn’t have done anything yet if not for a new book titled From Seed to Table, by Janette Haase and published by Insomniac Press.  I was sent a copy that arrived last Friday and by Sunday afternoon I was out on the back deck, sowing my seeds, inspired by what I’d read. 

What I like about this book is the calendar approach to local eating. Haase provides a guide for every month of year so you can stay on top of local eating and growing all year round. I don’t have a garden to plant in but I’m hoping to transpose her ideas to my containers… if I could just figure out how to keep the raccoons and squirrels away…
