I just very recently heard about your book and ordered it yesterday. I then discovered (because apparently I don't pay attention) that you are Canadian! I'm excited to read your book.

Then, this morning I discovered you have a blog! Can you tell I'm already a fan? LOL

Anyway, I wanted to comment that I love how amazing it is that the taxi driver and you both discovered a mutual love of farming because you took the time to ask him how business was. The information you gave him will hopefully lead him to having that greenhouse. The story made me smile and shake my head.

How forgiving are your neighbours? It wasn't so long ago (maybe 2 years) that I was awoken one morning in the Kristie Bloor area by a Rooster. Left me a little confused as to where I was that morn, but I was assured by my friend that her neighbourhood was full of live stock city or not!

When we can tomato sauce at the end of the summer, we put a twig of basil in each mason jar. When you open a jar in the middle of winter, it's like smelling summer.

'The Star' last week told of food grown in Chile being shipped to the Seattle, WA area to feed 'farmed' fish. The fish are next shipped to China for processing. That fish is then shipped back to Toronto or New York for sale to us. What lunacy when GHG's are daily killing asthma patients and others through pollution.

It reported corporate beef herds are massive, forcing prices down and producing manure in amounts that are now unmanageable. Methane problems arise from the crowded conditions on these huge industrial farms, primarily the result of bovine burping. All this for some multi-national's bottom line. Greed in the extreme.

I am interested in your book; just discovered your website through a canadian foodie; the story behing boston's beans is an interesting one too; in Lebanese cuisine molasses (carob, grape, etc) was used extensively too in both savory and sweet dishes.
